ARUM: CARDBOARD CHAIR
Fall 2016 - 4 Weeks
Sophomore Studio with professor Wendell Wilson
CHALLENGE: Using only three pieces cut from a 4'x8' sheet of cardboard, and no fasteners or glue, create a chair that holds up to 250 pounds.
I wanted to create something that you wouldn't expect from cardboard. Early on, I was drawn to a funnel-like form with curved edges. The real question was if I could even make this out of cardboard...
At this point I thought I was ready to move into full-scale. Unfortunately, I was wrong.
Despite the failure of my first model, I was able to identify all the little details that affected the final product, and make a much improved pattern to trace.
